Hello,
I need to upgrade my system (a Celeron processor) to a Pentium 4 processor. Is there any step-wise procedure that can help me do stuff at home without approaching a repair shop? What all do I need to buy for this upgrade?
Any help is appreciated!
Thank you,
Krishna

if your motherboard supports the pentium 4 chip make sure of that, and just the fan. and that should be all u need

Look,
There are about a million issues that surround this, and given that you asked this question, you don't understand even the very basics of computer hardware.
1) The Celeron comes in several flavors (FC-PGA and some number of flat pins) The pentium 4 comes in a 378 (for the second release) pin version. Thus they're for the msot part physically incompatible
2) The FSB of a P4 Motherboard can be anywhere from 133 (that of your celeron) to 800 MHz (much more than that of a celeron) and thus your currenmt MOBO would render crummy performance
3) New motherboard means new memory
You're much better off just buying a new computer. or Doing a system wide upgrade, and : judging by your question, you SHOULD leave this up to a computing professional. The hacks in your local computer store, *may* just be more technically competent than the five-pounder I left in the john this morning, thus they can handle this rather extensive (and if they have their way: expensive) operation. Just FYI if your going to put in a P4 in the existing computer you need a new powersupply, with the extra 12 volt-4pin lead.Have Fun

P4 is 478, not 378. P3 is 378. There are mobo's that are compatible with both P3 and Celeron, but not P4.
If cost is a major issue, look at all your current equipment and choose the mobo that supports it all. For best performance you should upgrade to faster memory as well.
