I am looking to upgrade my mothers computer. I have never upgraded to a higher cpu before. Is it possible to take a emachine and swap out the processer, saya 366mhz for a 500 mhz. She has a 366i.

Ok, well the 366 thing. Checked into it, and it would appear you have a Celeron 366 in your emachine. Check it to make sure (open up and look!).

Anyway. Found this little site.

http://www.thetechzone.com/articles/c366/

Your Celeron might be able to be overclocked to 550mhz+ without any real problems! I know that the early Celerons were ridiculously under clocked and they ran at FAR faster speeds than their "rating" said.

Go to the link, and look into it. It is a FREE upgrade, and on such a low Celeron, I would totally suggest seriously thinking about overclocking.

Otherwise, you have a socket 370 chip I believe. You NEED to make sure though. And you need to get a socket 370 chip that your board will support ( go for the maximum! )

Pentium 3 is a possibility. Look into it.
