Subject: Upgrade AdviceOS: Vista Business 32 BitCPU/Ram: C2Duo E6600, 2GB DDR2-800Manufacturer/Model: Prime Designs |
Comment: I currently have 2GB of DDR2-800 RAM installed on my box in single channel. I have recently recieved my tax refund and have decided to use it towards a few upgrades. I am adding a blueGears Enspirer sound card to my system and was debating on whether I should buy more RAM. If I do get more it will be an identical stick to my GSkill 2gb stick and will be set up in dual channel. Will i see a gain from this or will it be useless? My main uses for this computer are gaming and dvd burning. MoBo: MSI P6N SLI Platinum w/ nForce 650i ChipsetProcessor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4ghz @ 3.15ghz RAM: GSkill 2GB DDR2-800 Video: nVidia GeForce 8800GTS 640MB HDD: WD Raptor 10,000RPM 150GB

Reply: (edit)Why is your RAM not in dual channel now? And why do you feel more RAM is necessary? While we're at it, why do you need a soundcard? Your board has the HD Azalia (aka Realtek ALC888 7.1) which is supposedly quite good.

Reply: (edit)My RAM is not in dual channel because I have 1 2gb stick which = single channel. I do not know if more RAM is necessary. That is why "advice" is in the title of the post. Im going for the sound card for Dolby Digital Live output to my home theater system. And I am not buying the GTX. Reply: (edit)Get the RAM you won't regret it. With dual-channel memory, the memory controller is able to move double the peak amount of data that it could normally move with single-channel memory. That’s because it is sending or receiving data from two memory module pairs at the same time.
