upgrade a dell

Specs: Windows XP, 512
i have a dell optiplex 260gx whith 1,7 cpu , integrated video card. i want to upgrade the cpu and ram. what is the max. performance cpu accepted for upgrade (a problem could be cooling the system, if it's a match for new cpu, if it can cool enough), what ram can i use whith the new cpu and finnaly what dvd writer it is supported? I use this computer only on internet and to burn dvd.

It wouldn't be worth the time to upgrade it.

By the time you get the processor and ram you could get a much faster barebones system.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

I'm not sure what that'll max out at but it shouldn't cost much for something that old. I've been picking up 512 meg PC3200 sticks of ram on ebay for less than $10. I'm not sure what yours takes but it wouldn't need anything faster. CPUs of that genre are cheap too. Once you find out what it'll take check ebay.

i agree that it won't worth upgrading it, but i like this comp. it is doing the job very well and it's nice and compact. Ideal for surfing the internet.
