Hi,
I wanted to update the BIOS in my PC with ASU P4PE-X motherboard.
The exact current BIOS information is:
-BIOS version: ASUS P4PE-X/SE ACPI BIOS Revision 1006
- BIOS Model: P4PE-XSE Built date 08/26/03.I have downloaded the new BIOS version p4pexs08.zip, unpacked it to the floppy disk and followed the instructions.
Unfortunately the messege "This BIOS does not match with onboard. Press a key to reboot" appears after soon after the procedure starts.
I also tried with older version p4pexs07.awd but also without success.
What am I doin wrong?
Any help?

why do you want to do this.
Do not update motherboard bios unless you have a specific problem that the new version of the bios says it will fix.
It's a waste of time and a risk.

You're right.
There's no need to change anything if not necessary.
But I need to have the possibility to boot from external USB HDD and I hope that newer version shall have this option (the current version doesn't provide this option).Zennon

From the description at ASUSTEC the revised bios is to support new CPUs. It says nothing about providing USB boot support.
Leave your system alone or risk killing the motherboard completely.
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Is your motherboard P4PE-X or is it the P4PE-X/SE version. Although the boards may be very similar the bios' may not be compatible.
P4PE-X/SE

P4PE-X

Anyway as far as I can see the new bios for both -X and -X/SE only adds new CPU support.

All the above responses are correct. When you went to the Asus site to get the download there should have been a read me file explaining what the BIOS update was fixing. If it didn't mention booting USB devices then it won't provide that function.
