Specs: Windows XP
I have the update utility but I can not find a floppy disk to use the utility. Is there an option to update the bios through windows?

Each computer maker offers ways. If you must use a floppy then see if freedos cd will work.

You most likely do NOT need to update your bios.

Hang up and live.

Apparently your laptop is pretty old. Why do you feel you need a BIOS update? What do you expect to gain? The last BIOS available is R0247U0 dated 6/14/2004, here's what it "fixes":

■ Resolves the issue where, after installing the Microsoft® Windows® operating system XP Service Pack 1, the computer hangs when a USB 2.0 hard drive is connected via an NEC® USB 2.0 PCMCIA PC card.
■ Improves stability after resume from the Standby mode.

The BIOS file & instructions are at the SONY website. The update is performed from Windows, not from DOS (floppy).
