I doubt it.

Even a cheap Atom beats the pants off any P4 would be my guess. Atom boards complete are less than $100.

An AMD Athlon II 250 smokes and costs $73 or so. (course you'd need a new mb ram and maybe a powersupply.)

no! how much ram does it have? A P3 will have no trouble with XP, depending on the amount of ram.

Leave it on Windows 2000, sell it and put the money towards a new Laptop......

To answer you question you can not upgrade from P3 to P4 without changing hardware!

XP should run OK on 256MB but its preferable to have 512MB. I used to have a P3 laptop which was 1.13GHz/512MB and it was quite snappy under XP, a great PC for general use.

I agree i'd throw in at least 512mb and upgrade the hard drive to 60gb. Anything lower then 512mb of ram now of days is going to choke out your system really fast. Heck Windows Live messenger requires 128mb of ram.
