A single beep usually means your system has passed the POST (Power On Self-Test). All computers do it, though some are louder than others. I find it "comforting". Why would you want to disable it?

Four other computers in my household none of which make this irritating noise apart from mine. So what you are saying is I`M THE LUCKY ONE ! .
I was rather hoping for a solution to a problem, but thanks for your imput duely noted

I'd be willing to bet every computer you own emits a single POST beep at startup.

Please read the text "none of which make this irritating noise"
The Samsung goes "bip"
The Toshiba goes "pip"
The Sony is barely audible
The Patriot makes a pleasant "doop"
Mine goes "BEEEEP!!!!!!!!!!"
As I was telling "Lazarus" this morning "sorry for waking you up yet again." So after I`d cleared the neighbourhood dogs from my doorstep, all those that had answered the clarion call, from my computer starting up, I was pleased to see that I had an email pertaining to my problem, (remember that)?. Imagine my disappointment. Please can we draw a line under this pretty pointless exchange unless of course you have something to say that may have something to do with disabling or at the very least turning down the irritating noise coming from my computer when I start it up. Again thankyou for your imput, it is duely noted.
