i built an AMD2000XP+, 512 2100 DDR Ram, 64Mb G-Force 4, 30 GIG HD etc. My problem is this: When i try to play games the system kicks back to windows after a few minutes - no error messages, nothing. Then if i load them up again the same thing happens but more regular. Sometimes they only last a few seconds!! Also, every so often the pc will restart when the rescources aren't even being used up and when i'm doing something simple like opening a music file. I tried some different RAm and another G card but the same thing happens. I'm thinking it's a CPU or heatsink problem but when i check the temps in the bios they are all normal. Can somebody help please!!!
It may possibly be an inadequate power supply, but it may also be a Windows prob. Are you keeping up on your Windows updates? I believe there's a fix for that...

I have a similiar problem. When I play a game though it lasts about 30 minutes or so... or just some random amount of time really. It only happens on really high-end games though and I am sure its not my PSU cause i have 400Watts... there has to be something else causing it.

I had this problem with some games. It was the AV scanner trying to scan the game data being loaded. It works fine when I disable the scanner.
Check what other programs are running. Disable what you can before starting the game.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. To be honest - i'm thinking now that's it's either the PSU or the CPU. My PSU is 230watts which is ok (I think) as i live in the UK. Formatted the machine the other day and did a fresh install of windows - barely made it through cos it kept crashing during installation. I left it off 4 a day and came back - surprise surprise it worked. So, me thinks PSU or CPU - any advances on that?
