Unresponsive space bar

The space bar on my IBM laptop has become unresponsive. It works, but I have to press really hard, and only in the center of the key. Any thoughts on how to fix this would be appreciated.

Possibly by cleaning it from the inside. Now, the question is, that are you willing to try doing it yourself. Costs ´round 30 euros, eeeh.. = 36 $ to have a pro fix that kind of problems round here, in Finland. I guess Google can offer a lot more too, repair guides, and ideas, I mean. IF you choose that way ! :)

There was some dust under it - I checked it because the key seemed to be a little funny, but was overall working okay. I lifted the space bar, cleaned out under it, and snapped it back, but now it's worse. It will only read a space if I really slam down on the center of the key.

You better take it to the shop before you do some serious damage by 'slamming' on it.
