My new Dell pc has a problem with my hp LaserJet 1018 printer, the printer uses the USB port, I've already installed the driver but, when I connect the printer windows shows a baloon message telling that the device couldn't be recognized so, why is that ?

And is this problem related to a mboard issue ?
my PC is still new, it's model is optelics 330.

That baloon message is different than the other one that says "Found new hardware" or "Can't find driver".

And one more thing. I tried to connect the printer using all my pc's USB ports, the same message comes.

Is this an Optiplex 330? Do the keyboard and mouse work okay? Are you sure the printer is functional? Have you tried other USB devices? I would first try another usb cable for the printer.

Possibly a stupid question but do you have AC power connected to the printer?

I have everything ready as you say, the mouse and keyboard are USB and working fine, I'm going to try my USB Flash drive and see, actually it's not my prob it's my father's office pc so, I'm going to his office to see the prob, I think that printer wasn't installed correctly, I mean when Installing printer's driver we shouldn't connect it to the computer till the driver finshes installing.

Yes. It's optiplex 330. I think it's good one and should be okay for the next 6 years at his office.

No, there is no IT support, I can solve this if I saw his pc, may be the cable isn't functioning, may be the driver as I said, I'll see, If my flash drive works then I'll try to re-install the printer's driver and if it's not I think we're going to return that PC to it's vendor to solve the prob.
