Hi there. I have a question regarding devices which uses a USB cable to plug into a computer. Do I need to have my computer turned off before I plug the device in and/or have my computer turned off when I want to unplug it? I have a webcam and am worried everytime I unplug it while the computer is still on. Nothing has happen yet but I don't want to risk damaging it.

Plugging the device in/out before or after your computer boots has absolutly no harmful effect. The USB port was designed as a natural Plug-and-Play device. Being able to un-plug and plug-in at any point is one of the main highlights of USB.

Some devices, such as printers, recommend you disable the device in software before removing the USB cable as the computer may still think it is an active device and not be alerted as it's presence missing. But this is not your case.
