I just want to make sure; will unplugging a [Maxtor DiamondMax 80 Gb] hard drive (data and power cables, both) erase everything on it, or in any way make it unreadable when plugged into another system, or back into the same system? Thanks a lot!

As long as it's used in another system that can read the format of the drive (NTFS probably), you're fine...just don't drop the drive. :-)

Make sure the power is turned of before you do.

You will have problems booting XP if you install the disk in another computer which may necessitate you reinstalling the operating system.
