unmountable boot volume error

December 31, 2010 at 02:05:53
Specs: Windows XP
My computer keeps resetting and via F8 and the stop option I was able to stop it and read the error message. Sounds like an issue with my Hard Disk and a lot of advice can be read based on an available XP CD. However I don't have this CD since XP Home SP3 was already pre-installed. I only have the Serial number.

Any advice what to do?

Thanks for the link...not a great help since all answers in the end link to the XP CD and this is what I mentioned was my issue with an installed XP on the computer at purchase....my feel was that is was a harddisk error but when it keeps rebooting you cannot do a chkdsk etc.

Found the solution for not having a CD...I made a NFTS bootable USB using http://www.ntfs.com/boot-disk.htm and their demo version for NFTS Win.

This allowed me to boot from USB and run the diagnostics.
