Hi
One of my friends have an old Pentium computer system with the "GA-586AP" motherboard(I think this is Gigabyte motherd). The BIOS was setup a password by someone, so he couldn't enter the BIOS. I try to remove the battery on this motherboard, but couldn't find it. Does this motherboard have a battery, and where can I locate it? How can I bypass this password to enter the BIOS setup?
Note: I have checked the Gigabyte website, but it is no longer support the model of this motherboard. I also found the manual of this motherboard, but its manual did not mention anything about the battery.
Thank you so much for any helps

There is a battery somewhere, usually a flat circular silver package, about the diameter of a nickel or a quarter. There may be a jumper to clear the CMOS also.
Rule #1: Good Computers don't go down.
Rule #2: There is no such thing as a good computer.

Thank you Rick McNabb. I have checked the battery on the motherboard many times already, but couldn't find the battery. Any other suggestions please?

You have an old socket 7 board that doesn't use the lithium coin style battery...it uses a Dallas Real Time battery. It black & rectancular. Don't take it out. Instead, do a search for a program called KILLCMOS...it will wipe out the password & reset the BIOS to the default settings, then you can go in & set them however you want
ASUS A7N8X-X
Athlon XP 1800+
8.5 x 200MHz
1024MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7
Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB
WinME/WinXP Pro SP1

Thank you Jam. If I use KILLCMOS program to remove the BIOS password, will it change the BIOS setting to the default setting?

KILLCMOS performs the same function as resetting the BIOS manually by the jumper.
Yes it will restore factory defaults
