Comment: Hi all I re-installed WinXP Home on my Asus A2500H notebook with the recovery partition last night. After loading Windows it came up with an unknown device. I already installed all the divers (VGA, sound, USB, touchpad etc) and it had no hardware plugged in. I was able to identify it a little bit more with an old Everest Home edition. It says it's a: "SiS SMBus controller" Does anybody know what this is and where I can find a driver for it? Because every time I boot Windows it keeps asking me to install the driver for it. Also, if there's no driver for it, is there a way to turn this message off? (disabling the device does not work) All thoughts are welcome! ~Liz Intel P4 3.2E Ghz@ 3.8Ghz Asus P4P800-E Deluxe Kingston 2GB PC3200 Asus AX800 Pro w/ZM80D-HP WD Raptor 37 GB Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300 GB Asus E616P1 Plextor PX-740A Reserator 1

Reply: (edit)It's a Systems Management Bus - and one of its jobs may well be to provide info on battery status: is this info being provided?? Should be on the main board driver/set up disk - won't be on Windows disk!

Reply: (edit)hmm that's weird. When I bought the notebook all controllers seemed to be installed. Unfortunately I only got recovery cd's with it and don't have a motherboard cd. Reply: (edit)Since you have a 'recovery partition', this must be an OEM system. Maybe you can get some information by going to the web site of the manufacturer of the notebook. Do yourself a favor BACKUP!!!

Reply: (edit)Hi, When you format a boot drive all info is lost including the Drivers for everything. Go to the maker's web site and download the drivers for your machine. If you can't find them there try driversguide.com. You should never Format the drive unless you have all the necessary drivers. The laptop should have come with a Recovery CD. It will have the drivers you need. Good luck, Jim

Reply: (edit)I didn't really format, but 'resetted to factory defaults' with the recovery partition. I'll check the website again if I can find something Intel P4 3.2E Ghz@ 3.8Ghz Asus P4P800-E Deluxe Kingston 2GB PC3200 Asus AX800 Pro w/ZM80D-HP WD Raptor 37 GB Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300 GB Asus E616P1 Plextor PX-740A Reserator 1
