For the past few days, whenever I start up my desktop in the morning, I am requested to set system time and date in the BIOS which have been zeroed out. By the same token, I notice that several parameters (not all of them) have been changed : RAID controller was activated (I leave it deactivated), IDE mode is changed from P-ATA to mixed, boot sequence and language are changed, etc.
This incident occurs regularly when the pc has been shut down for a few hours, for example all night. It doesn't occur if I do a reboot.

Is this a sign of my battery running out? Sounds like it, yes.

When I remove the battery, will all parameters blank out or switch to default values ? I probably should make a note of them before the change

It should take only a few seconds to change the battery. The capacitors should hold the charge for that long. Of course, as already mentioned, it's already been wiped more than once.
