OS: win xp
CPU/Ram: 1.6athlon/512ddr 233

Got new hd and conected it as a device 1 slave it is detected in bios and in system devices but no drive letter assigned and not present in my comp.How do i initalize my new hard drive?? (no install disk present with purchase).

You will need to format the drive.

Go to control panel, performance and maintenance, administrative tools, computer management the disk management. Although if someone knows a shorter way to get there, please let me know.

Right click on the drive that says it's unformatted and then click format.

Right click my computer, click manage, then disk mgmt. Format and partition your new drive from there.
