Hi,

I am unable to install windows xp or 2000 onto my system, it boots up the bootable OS cd fine but blue screen's 2 minutes later saying something about ACPI enabled & go to www.hardware-update.com

Where do i go from here? i can install windows 98 fine but not 2000 or XP the hardware specs of the machine meet the minimum requirements. The HDD has passed diag tests aswell.

i think this might be something to do with a bios update??? where do i go to flash or update it?

Thanks in advance.

What do you mean it meets the minimum specs. Spell it out. how much ram? What size harddrive? Is it a brand-name system? Msoft has a compatibility testing tool available as a download. get it and check to see if your system really is ok to instal XP.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

it might be worth looking in BIOS/Setup. On my ASUS A7V8X under 'Power' in the Bios Setup there is ' ACPI Suspend to RAM' which can be enabled/disabled. I have no idea what it means but you could see if you can find any settings like this and try altering them to see if it helps. (keep a written note of what you alter so you can always put it back how it was if things get worse)

Win2K/XP are very particular about RAM...Win98 is more "tolerant" of RAM errors. Before doing anything else, download memtest86, use the file to create a bootable floppy, then boot off it & run the diagnostics. If you get any errors at all, replace the RAM

Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB
