Hi,

I am facing a strange problem. Once in a while, my PC (win98, Linux multiboot) flashes me the Blue Screen [Unable to access C: drive. Could not write to C: Some data may be lost] and freezes. And the hard disk access indicator shows continuous access (without a flicker). The only thing that works is to turn it off. The next time, I try to boot, invariably, some critical windows file seems to have got corrupted, and I have to reinstall Win98.

Any idea as to what could be the culprit? I am absolutely stumped.

Configuration:

hda 40GB HDD (Primary Master)
hdc 40GB FDD (Secondary Master)
hdd CD-ROM drive (Secondary Slave)

Regards,
Shantnau

I'd first scan for viruses and use SpyBot
AdAware

then reload the opersting system.

Taking on a different OS is a good option. Maybe, I'll try that sometime later, but presently I am trying to figure out if this could be due to any hardward conflicts.

Any clues?

You'll need to do somethings first.

replace the ribbon cable, observe antistatic procedures.

If you have the capability to do so, enable SMART capability in BIOS. it may start complaining if there is a hardware problem.

no joy?

run EndItAll2 to insure nothing else is interfering. scandisk it and have it do a media scan. this may indicate bad sectors. if so backup while you can.
