Computers and laptops will freeze at the "entering setup, please wait" message if the hard drive has failed, that's the most common cause of that symptom.

However, don't assume that a new hard drive is required since it may be something else. Test the hard drive first before making any assumptions.

You can test it with a bootable CD containing the drive manufacturer's diagnostic software. You have to make this CD yourself (on a working computer of course), and you can download the free diagnostic software from the appropriate link on this page:

Try removing the power plug from the domestic supply, removing the battery then holding down the power off/on button for about 20 seconds. This "sometimes" helps if things get stuck.

That's all you did salt; just restart your machine??? You didn't install anything and bump anything or make any changes before this happened?

Suppose you don't try to enter setup. What happens if you start it up and let it sit there? Does it go into windows or do you get error messages?
