Comment:
A friends computer suddenly refused to start booting and gives the message "Ultra 100 BIOS version 2 is not installed no drives attached"
On inspecting the motherboard, it has 2 IDE ports and two of these 100ATA ports on the motherboard, which I understand improve access time for harddisks.
I have resolved the problem, by luck, but would like more information on these ATA100 ports.
Does the primary boot drive still need to be on the first IDE?
What are the purpose of these 2 ATA100 ports?
What is the best way to use them, put both hard drives on these ports and ignore the standard IDE?
Do they need there own drivers/bios etc?

I have the same problem. I really need help. At first, I had an error about an 80 cable, then I got this, I knew I did something because I installed a USB Card in my computer, and I think I Moved the I.D.E's around or something, I have checked and rechecked a hundred times and I dont see anything wrong. Here is my post about my 80 cable problem, it gives some more information I think:
I just logged on here, I have a problem after I inserted a little something (UBS CARD) into my computer. I booted up to find a "Primary I.D.E - No 80 cable conducter installed" in the BIOS. I do know my I.D.E's work, mabye I bumped something, My I.D.E are in in a total tangle, mabye if I organize them I might find the problem but
I'm real sure checked to see if everything was connected, I beleive its a small cable or jumper I bumped, I always seem to bump something when I install something new. Anyways, what the heck is an 80 cable? This might help me figure out the problem so I know what it looks like, ect.
I was repling to another topic but it said the message was to old, so I reposted it. I was really didnt understand it either. Please help me. Thank You!

They are called Raid controllers and they are for installing more hard drives in different configurations on your system. Do a search on google.com for Raid controller.

I dont need a Raid controler. I would just like to fix the problem so my BIOS (the part were on the UltraBios 100) thing comes up like the first post says, all I now is that I put some stuff in and I think I changed something but I dont now because the beleive the I.D.E's are fine. Is there a solution to this problem?

Ok, I tried some things such as arranging the IDE's better and I got some progress. I believe I'm almost their but I'm still getting a freeze up when it says Ultra 100 BIOS version 2 is not installed no drives attached. Note: It says that right before it boots up into WinXp Pro, but this time it just sites there and loads. I even tried to leave it on for around 3 hours to see if it would do anything. Nothing...I also tried to reset the defaults in the CMOS or Bios, whatever you want to call it. I'm very talented at computers and I'm very curious as to what the heck is causing this problem. I need this computer working by today too :(
Thank you for your help and time,
David Waters

Have you tried disabling the RAID controller in BIOS under Integrated Peripherals? That would stop the RAID BIOS from trying to boot just before XP.
