Comment:

are there different types of 9 pin serial ports? The camcorder i bought use's RS-232C port and the only 9 pin port on my computer is an IEEE 1394. Is this why my computer is NOT finding the camcorder ?

G'day,

No, the RS232 standard has changed over the years, but electrically it is the same. The pin-out is the same. I'm not sure about the other standard; it's not familiar to me.
Maybe you can give us some details.

regards,
Elric

IEEE 1394 is a high speed serial bus interface (firewire); rs 232c is the standard serial port. They are not the same.

latest:

from computer:
Note:There is one physical 9-pin EIA232 serial port on your ThinkPad that you can use as a communications port.

from camcorder:
Easily capture digital stills from your video footage by serial(RS232c) connection.

Camcorder still goes undetected. Is this the problem? And if so, is there a solution? When i run the camcorder software, it asks to pick either COM1 or COM2, and COM 2 is where my modem is, and yes, the serial is on COM 1. So, clicking COM1, it "scans" for connection ( to camcorder )....which it never finds.
