type of compatible ram??

OS: win xp home
CPU/Ram: p4 256rd ram

Hi, I was thinking of upgrading my RAM, but didnt know which types/makes would be compatible what what I have atm.

Pentium 4
Win XP Home
1.9GHz Processor
256MB RD Ram

I was thinking of upgrading it to either 512 or 1024. Do I have to get any specific size/make/type because of my current ram?

The size/amount of RAM doesn't matter; what matters is the type. You spec RD ram so that is what you must purchase. IF that is so, then DDR (the most common nowadays) will not work.
Just to check, download SiSoft, install it, and click on the memory module; it should specify for sure what type of RAM you are running. It's free:
