Subject: Two Video Cards? OS: Windows XP CPU/Ram: 1g/512mb

Comment: I need to know how to, or if it's possible, to hook up two different video cards and only one monitor. I have a Radeon 9000 for gaming but I want to have my AllinWonder for video capture etc. Is it possible to have them both installed at the same time and just switch the monitor cable back and forth or, is there a better way to do this?

Reply: (edit)You could do that by using an A - B switch. Normally they are used to send the signal from two computers to one monitor. I'm not sure about the two ATI cards in there, maybe it would be ans advantage to only have one set of catalyst drivers installed. Why don't you Email tech support at ATI and run it by them and see what they have to say. Is you AIW a PCI card. Don't forget, you only have one AGP slot. Your best solution would be to get a 9800 series AIW card. All it takes is money.

Reply: (edit)Are you saying two video cards on the same system? or a different computer? If you are saying two video cards on the same system, it's not possible because both of them have AGP. If you are saying two systems one monitor, yes it's easy, just get a KVM switch. Reply: (edit)Jim Actually it is possible to have far more than two video cards in one system. Of course only one can be AGP. I was just reminding Majin about the AGP thing. His AIW may well be a PCI card.

Reply: (edit)Yes I know there is PCI video card, but you can't use two video cards at the same time you have to disable one on bios Pentium 3.2 EE 800FSB /HT Asus P4C800-E Deluxe Corsair XMS 2 x 512 DDR550 WD 74Gig 10,000RPM SATA HD MSI GeForce FX5950 Ultra 256MB, 256-bit Creative Audigy2 ZS Platinum Pro Creative Gigaworks S750 7.1 Speaker Lite-On DVD+/- RW Lite-On 52/32/52 CD-RW

Reply: (edit)4 video cards work on one computer? All of them work? That's not possible. Or just 4 video cards on the system. Two different story. Reply: (edit)You sure CAN have multiple video cards on a system. Go to windows help/Index and type 'multiple display support'.

Reply: (edit)The most simultaneous different displays is/was 16 with 4 4-port STB MVPro 128's. These cards are used mostly for displaying financial charts (stockbrokers, etc.) I think STB has gone out of business, but I have seen this card operating with 4 displays. Currently Matrox has 2 and 3 display cards. ATI and Nvidia has 2 display models. The limit is apparently the number of pci and agp slot.
