Ok, I am interesting in installing two seperate sound cards in my computer. I did find another where most people said it would work. But I'm wondering if it will work to do what I want it to do. For the next few months, I have to get up an hour earlier every other day. I know that I am going to forget to set my alarm clock a few days through out this time because I am not used to changing the time on my alarm clock every night (or I'll set it wrong a few days). There's software out there that makes your computer act as an alarm clock and will go off at different times on different days automatically. But my speakers on my computer have a power button on them. If I forget to turn on the speakers before I go to bed, or have them turned down, I'll sleep in because I won't hear my alarm clock on my computer. So I want to install a second sound card, and make the output of the alarm clock program go to the new speakers and everything else go to my main speakers. So, if I install a seperate sound card, will I have a seperate sound mixer just for that card? Is there a way to redirect the sound from just one application to that other sound card while keeping the rest of the sounds going to the main sound card?

I'm gonna put you on to a lot simpler way to do this and with out using your computer.
Get a 7-day digital programable timer. The kind that plugs in to the wall outlet and has an outlet built in to it. Program the timer for each day's wake up time(this is called ON time), duration of event(how long it's going to run till it hits the OFF time), and plug in a tv or radio to the outlet on the timer. You can program the OFF time to corrispond to the time you need to be walking out the door. Don't forget to install the back up battery. Lowes and Home Depot will be your best bet on finding one that does what you need for a reasonable amount of coin...

I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid...

I used a 14 day timer connected to the sprinkler system, set to come on the days I needed to get up early. Just aimed one of the heads at the window by the bed for a few weeks. Worked well until I left the window open one night.

Actually the cost of a second digital alarm clock would be less than a second sound card and the effort in programming your system to activate it. You would just have to remember to turn it on the night before.

There are a number of programmable radio/alarm clocks with seven day alarm settings on them. A great idea for those with early classes two days a week and who need a jolt to get them up (Fire Alarm), yet like to sleep a little later on the weekend with a more musical wakeup.

Rather than using a sound card, would it be possible that to set up the alarm program to use the pc speaker, which does not turn off?

Good luck - Keep us posted.
