Hi
I have two harddrives installed the master harddrive works all the time after reboot, how can i get the second harddrive to work. The are both listed in the bios setting. I need help thanks in advance
Horst

What do you mean? "how can i get the second harddrive to work"
Has it been partitioned and formatted? Is this second drive a new addition or was it previously working but is no longer accessible by windows?
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Are you saying you have a dual OS system?
What OS is on the first disk?
Did you just install XP on the second disk? You sure are stingy with information!
Do yourself a favor BACKUP!!!

Both harddrives are ok i just don,t now how to stop one from running so i can use the other harddrive. Thanks Horst

Since you didn't set these drives up as a dual boot system, to boot off the 2nd HDD, you'd have to go into the BIOS & change the boot settings to make the 2nd drive the 1st boot device. When you reboot, you'll boot off the 2nd HDD. Did the 2nd HDD come from a different system or was it previously used on the same system? If it's from a different system, it probably won't boot into XP anyway....you'd have to do a "repair install"

Trying the same thing, got 2000pro on old drive. Cloned sons XP on second played the jumpers game. Won't boot from XP drive just a moment after POST the XP logo flashes then error. Boot with 2000 and open the XP drive and all is there but a few things don't work. Been trying from BIOS, then son got free download from majorgeeks called bootswitcher got it loaded on the 2000 and instructions say load it on both but it won't go to the XP drive. Anyone got any more answers? Sorry to butt in on your question. Maybe the answer is the same. How do you do a repair install?
Crunch

Ok...
You can not just install a hard drive as a secondary drive that already contains an operating system and expect it to work.
In case #1...
If the operating system was installed on that drive and on that same PC then your boot.ini file needs to be 'repaired'.Boot up the PC using the Windows Installation disk and do a "Repair" install.
Doing so will correct the boot.ini file that resides on the first drive (C:\).
Then when you boot up you will have the choice of which drive to boot from.
The other option is to change the boot drive within the BIOS each time you start the PC as noted earlier.
In case #2...
You too can do a repair install if that cloned system is identical to the system you have placed the drive into. The original installation sees all of the different hardwares and configures the install for those devices. Just plopping it into another non-identical system won't work.
You can not share the license from the other system either.
In either case both of you should be able to attach these drives to the other PC and see the files on the drives if both drives on the PCs are formatted in siimilar filing systems. NTFS can see NTFS or FAT32 whereas FAT32 can not see NTFS files.
Booting from a secondary drive requires some sort of legal installation process.

BryanP.S. Staples is selling Windows XP Home version upgrade starting tomorrow with a $50 rebate so the cost after rebate would be $49.99

Hi Wup, You don't have to stop one drive to use the other. You would only select the one you want in My Computer or Windows Explorer etc. Explain more about what you mean about one running all the time. Good Luck, Jim

Hi
Thanks for the responce guys. What i mean is when my computer boots up that it would give me a choice either c drive or e drive
Both harddrives are formated in the same computer. Thanks Horst
