I want to record tv shows on my desktop.
I´ve been searching online for TV tuner cards but as I keep searching I really don´t know what to buy. Hope someone might help me here with these questions:

- Can anyone recommend a good affordable TV tuner card for my desktop?

- Can someone tell me the pros and cons of internal and external TV tuner cards?

- If I get a USB tuner card, will my system support it?

thanks :)

I have inexpensive Hauppauge and Aver video cards and they both work very well. But I purchased separate software for recording, because the software that came with them was not flexible enough for me.

I recently purchased a $30 USB box (a USB 2.0 TV tuner) and I haven't got it to work yet. It crashes the system.

I purchased Cyberlink's Power VCR II, because it had more options to select the quality and size of the recorded file. It also has an option to automaticly record at a time you select.

If I was to purchase a program now, I would like to have one that records either DIVX or XVID. I convert all my videos to one of those formats these days. The files are much smaller and still have pretty good quality.

Excellent points by RTAdams89. You will need an HD tuner to record HD.

I use a Hauppauge PVR 150 PCI card, it works very well and it's affordable.
