Whenever my portable DVD player is idle for a while it turns off by itself.
So I thought it might be a setting so I turned off all the options and then I left it on over night. When I woke up the next day it was still on! Does this mean it was a setting that caused it to turn off by itself or could it be something else??By the way my portable DVD player is Sony a DVP FX720W.

It was something else:-
The Phantom DVD Switcher! :-)
Also known as the 1 disc remover!
Good Luck - Keep us posted.

jackburns/samcure/withwho/michaelcasey,
Did you even read the settings as you flipped them off? If you disabled an option that read AutoOff, SmartPower, BatterySaver, or Al Gore Approved Mode, then you've obviously disabled the power saver.
And why did you leave it on overnight? That wasn't very healthy for the screen that you are/were so concerned about a few days ago. Usually, if a small electronic gadget stays on for more than half an hour without entering a low power mode, then it will stay on until the cows come home.
Please, read the friendly manual. It will tell you everything that you need to know about the unit's power saving features.

I've read the manual from cover to cover and it doesn't mention anything about power saving features.
Any more ideas?

...also I left it on overnight because I wanted to see if it would turn off by itself like it did previous times.

Don't worry about posting back I found out what was causing it to turn off by itself.
It turned out to be the Screen Saver doing it. After 15 minutes of being on(screen saver) it automatically turns off. Thanks for all your replies and help!

Glad you got it figured out. Screen saver--of course! I should've thought of that.
And...thanks to a healthy dose of carrots...I can see that I was kinda rude/impatient in my previous post. I'm sorry.
Vitamin A...eh?
