turn computer on; straight into sleep mode

May 31, 2010 at 23:24:56
Specs: Windows 7
I have an intel core 2quad processor Q8200. Today when I tried to turn it on, a message popped up that said both the VGA and HDMI inputs were inactive, although both were plugged in. I then got a message that said "Computer going into sleep mode." The keyboard and mouse are non-responsive and turning the computer on and off does nothing. I tried switching the monitor out but encountered the same problem with the new set-up. I noticed on other threads that moving the computer can cause internal damage, and I recently moved the computer between rooms. Is there any way to check for what could be wrong? The beeps that play on start-up go as such: BEEP (GAP) BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.
Hope that helps =/

How comfotable are you going inside your computer case? I would open it up and check all the connections.

Is that the exact count? 1 beep followed by 5? What kind of system do you have? Here's a list of beep codes for an AMI BIOS:
