Subject: Trying to install new Graphics CardOS: WinMECPU/Ram: 1.2gAthlon/512 |
Comment: Hello all, I am trying to install a radeon 9700 pro. The instructions state, clearly, to uninstall the current video drivers. So, upon clicking remove I get a message that says for the changes to take place, I have to restart my system. But, when I restart my system, the drivers are reinstalled (it's a tnt2 32meg, that came with my system...the drivers are stored on hd I guess). Is there a way around this? I have been trying to solve this one, but I am an amateur. I have no onboard graphics, so I can't take the card out of the tower inbetween the "restart". I am stumped. I strongly wish to do a perfect install of this new card because I just reformatted my hd, and, the last time I installed this card, I ignored the driver instructions and installed it any ways (I did have some direct 3d issues whether or not they were related to my ignorance, I don't know). Whne I say issues... I mean when I tried to load dxdiag, I would get an error about direct 3d not loading last time or something...I don't remember. I'll stop babbling... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much, Red.

Reply: (edit)Thank you so Much! I am going to try that right now. ...wait, sorry, but do I do all this after restarting (after removing the drivers), or before. Or, do these steps replace that all together? Thanks again, Red.

Reply: (edit)Once you've deinstalled your drivers, turn off the computer instead of restarting, install card, turn on computer, install drivers from disc with new card, voila. Clyde

Reply: (edit)first go into add remove and remove the tnt or nvidia software package. then reboot chances are that will put it to standard vga. if you don't uninstall the software driver package you'll most likely have troubles getting the new ati drivers loaded correctly. Hardware driver Help

Reply: (edit)Here is the SIMPLE way to do it. 1. Go into Add/Remove Programs, find nVidia Disply Drivers, lickc rmeove, say no to restart. 2. Go into Hardware Profile, find gfx card, click remove if not already gone. Say no to restart. 3. Shutdown, install new card, boot up. Upon boot, when Windows search for drivers, click cancel. When at Desktop, insert ATI Driver CD, install, reboot, done.
