Trying to boot HP laptop repaired after drop

Specs: Windows XP
hi all , dropped HP 6735s laptop on the floor , broke screen !!! , replaced screen , a few days later when swiched on it wouldnt reboot , came up with hard drive failure ,
so replaced with a new hard drive direct from HP , when switched on i get , pxe-e61 check media cable,and still no reboot,
so i get sent a new set of discs (windows start up disc and also an application and recovery disc , have tried each one and still no joy , i have read through all related topics on here about changing bios settings but still have not managed to start up /reboot my lap top
any help would be great , thanks

... with a new hard drive which is normally shipped blank it would be advisable to alter your bios settings, booting sequence to cd/dvd first.

... important: save settings on exit of bios!

... then place the recovery disc in the tray and startup (reboot) the laptop and follow the on screen instructions.

... I am assuming HP sent you a "full" recovery set.

In addition to the above correct help I suggest you verify you have installed the hard drive correctly. Watch the POST screens at start up to make sure the BIOS is properly configuring both your hard drive and the CD drive.
