Trouble Installing OS on new PC

I Just Put Together a new pc, a P4 1.8ghz, 256 DDR, ASUS P4PE Motherboard, ATI Radeon 7000 video card. And everything boots fine up until I try and install an OS, i get various errors ranging from: "divide overflow" to "general text error". I have had pretty much a different error each time so its hard to pin point the problem. I have tried installing three different Operating systems(win 98, win 98se, and winXP) which all seem to stop about 5 seconds into setup. I have also tried replacing the RAM and cd drives (still get the same errors). I am so confused and hope that someone out there can help. Thanks, Jason

did you overclock your cpu??? or ram?? try install the operating system without other hardware installed, leave the video card and ram installed on the motherboard only.

I didnt overclock the cpu, or the ram, the cpu is at 100mhz with a multiple of 18, and the ram is set to auto. So your saying pull everything exept the motherboard, cpu and,the video card?

It sounds like you tried to upgrade the operating system. The best bet is to remove the active partition, create a new one and install XP from scratch, a clean install.
