Two friends have a Cognac mboard - and I for a little info for them.

The Cognac mboard was made by Trigem, a manufacturer in Korea.
It came as Cognac, or Cognac+.
I'm not sure what the differences are, but some features were optional, and Cognac+ may be the one with all the optional features.
It appears HP may have only used the Cognac one.
There have been many revisions of this mboard, but they appear to all use the same bios version and bios updates (yours is Rev. H). Earlier versions probably require updating the bios in order to use the faster processors the mboard is capable of supporting, and to support larger hard drives, the latest version probably supporting hard drives to 128 gig, or at least 64 gig. The first versions appeared in 1998.

Trigem mboards are also found in EMachines systems.

Trigem support is poor - support in English is only maintained for a few years, then it disappears. There is probably support for older models at the parent website but it is in Korean only - you would have to use a translator to read it, and even then it may not translate to something that is clear enough. Because of this, there are sites on the internet that have stored information about older models.

The cpu settings are determined automatically by the bios and by the readings of certain pins on the cpu.

I don't see anything in the Cmos settings document about enabling/disabling the cpu internal cache - if that were disabled the cpu, and the computer, would be considerably slower but still be rated at the same mhz speed. However it could be that document is not telling the whole story, and you might find such a setting when you look at the screens in the Cmos Setup. The cpu or onchip cache setting should be enabled.

Audio: Intel 82801AA AC’97 Audio/Modem controller (same)
Expansion Slots
1 AMR, 2 PCI (third PCI is missing)
two audio in headers (for CD drive; other one for AMR modem?; others are missing)

For Cognac
Intel has better drivers for the onboard video - can use more ram (6.5mb), have higher resolutions.
See this, probably Win 98 related, and Intel site:

Information and software for HP Pavilion 7917 (Can) Model P6330A.
Pavilion 7917 is on the front of the case.
Model P6330A is on a label on the case somewhere.

HP site.
www.hp.com
click on Support and Drivers
Type: Pavilion 7917, or use Search at top right and type Pavilion 7917 or P6330A .

If you use Pavilion 7917 choose the Canadian model P6330A.
The French Pavilion 7917 uses a different motherboard.

A search for Pavilion 7917 or P6330A yields the same Pavilion 7917 information.

There is no manual for the motherboard in Manuals.

There is no indication of what motherboard this model uses in its Specifications.
The only clue is in Software and Drivers, if you look at the bios update, the bios update screen has the name FresnoCognac at the bottom.

Updates are available for some of the software that originally came with the computer.
.........

Clues from the motherboard itself, printed on mboard or on labels.

Mat. No. 119920 Cognac 20010412
S/N 121712-0034260 (near floppy cable connector)
Rev. H (under drive cage)

The only thing of any use is Cognac.
There is probably a HP part number somewhere, probably on a label.
.........

Search the HP site using: fresnocognac

yields only the same bios update
FresnoCognac_307.exe
Release Date: 2002/1/24
Version: 3.07 9-17-01

Search the HP site using: fresno cognac

Many search results
(it finds results for both words, or either word)
including:

HP Pavilion PCs - Motherboard Layout and Information: Trigem Cognac
This is an older document and does not list 7917 or P6330A.

Cognac bios update Cog_211.exe
Release Date: 2002-01-24 Version: 2.11 7-19-01
Going by the release dates, date of version is the same, the two updates may be the same thing woth different labelling, but the
FresnoCognac_307.exe one will work for sure.

Search the HP site using: cognac - close to the same results as for
using: fresno cognac.

According to the many search results the cognac mboard was apparently used in other HP models, including Workstations, and in models that used the same mboard with slower processor speeds. It has been used in HP computers since 1998!!
