The US government made some special computers with a for a while with a secret chip in them. Unfortunately everyone went berzerk when an actual bonafide sale of some computers resulted in an botched arrest.

I doubt you will ever see it again. It is in the hands of crooks and petty thieves that know how to get rid of stuff. Most likely some kid in your neighborhood or small time pro crook did it. You can look at resale shops or craigslists and pawn shops but I doubt you will see it again.

In the future you may wish to use truecrypt to help secure your data.
Another choice is to buy one of the laptops that have a special chip that needs a password each time. They have been proving almost impossible to hack. It will get stolen but they won't get your data.

Change all passwords and might consider more aggressive measures to protect your identity. Contact banks and credit cards if you suspect any of that data is lost.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

On your next lap top you might want to install a program like "where's my computer"

If stolen when connected to the internet using a different address it will email you with the location. My next laptop will have a camera as the program can also send a picture of the user........Having the location, time and a picture of the thief can help getting it back........

Don't know ,but I would imagine newer versions will be able to also send a recent activity report as well...hmmmm
