Comment:
can anybody tell me anything about a toshiba t1200? is the o/s ms dos 3.3 or ibm dos 3.3. is there two models, one with a 720k floppy and a 20mb hard drive, one with two 720k floppies? how much ram? what cpu? any other points of interest? I thank you kindly for your time. I bought it hoping to run dos 6.22 on it but didn't do my homework and now i'm paying. Perhaps there is something I can use it for.

You didn't specify exactly what your problem was but dos 6.22 is going to be on 1.44 floppies and you've got 720 K floppy drive(s).

It's not practical to run 6.22 if you have no hard drive, as 6.22 spans more than a single disk. But if you have a hard drive, 6.22 will run just fine once you get it installed.

You may be able to either copy the 1.44 disks to 720 formatted disks and run the installation or copy the 1.44 to 720 and then copy the 720 to the hard drive and run the installation. However, those methods may not work since the installation files expect it to be done from the 1.44 disks.

The last time I did it I installed 6.22 to another computer and then copied its dos directory to the 8088 computer. You need some dos background as you have to SYS the hard drive first, manually create a dos directory and then copy the files to it.

To install dos 6.22 on a hard drive, do this:

You need another computer, running any operating system, that has a 1.44mb disk drive (I will refer to this computer as computer2).

1. Boot up the computer2 with the dos 6.22 1.44mb disk #1.

2. Press F3 twice to cancel the installation.

3. Format a 720kb disk(If you don't have a 720kb disk you can take a 1.44mb disk and put a piece of sticky tape over the hole on the right side of the disk.)
and label it the same as the 1.44mb disk.

4. sys the 720kb disk (type sys a:)

5. copy half of the files on the 1.44mb disk to the 720kb disk and the other half of the files to an other 720kb disk.(the second disk has to be labeled as the 1.44mb disk as well.)
Make sure that the files install.exe expand.exe keyb.com keyboard.sys nlsfunc.exe sys.com and format.com are on the sys:ed disk.

6. Now format the t1200's harddrive boot it using the sys:ed disk.

7. When it tells you that a file is missing, write down the name of the file and swap to the second disk (You will have to expand these files manually later using the expand command.)

8. When it tells you that the setup needs disk 2, copy the files from the 1.44mb disk using computer2 to 2 720kb disks and label them the same as the 1.44mb disk. Do the same with disk 3. (Note that the disks used as setup disks 2 and 3 should not be sys:ed.)

Good Luck!
