I have a toshiba satellite 1695cdt with win98se. computer boots up fine....but shuts down in about 60 seconds everytime. i loaded the latest bios 1.07 hoping to find a fix...wasn't that lucky....considerd a heat problem...does it in the cold also. both fans are working and no dust around the cpu....acts like some type of setting that is incorrect...causing a time out. does anyone have any suggestion on what this could be...???

Could be anything..have you checked out the hard drive? Go to drive manufacturer's website and get the diagnostic program for the drive.
:)
WILL POST FOR FOOD.

Yes, I formated the drive in another Toshiba Satellite.....same problem;;; took the other computers drive in put it in the problem laptop..same problem. Also the same when booting up from diskette. The problem laptop has the standard 64 meg onboard memory...so added a 128 Meg to the bottom bay...no change....Today I removed the heat sink and re-jelled it to CPU thinking it might be heat related... even though there was no other indication of over heating.....same problem...When it boots it will stay on about 55 seconds...each time...(watched my watch on several times. ) ..This leads me to think there must be some type of incorrect setting..something that says l....power off.... In Windows. I have gotten to control panel and power options ...they are all set to not power off the drive or monitor for at least 30 minutes...configation is for laptop....When it goes down it is just like hitting the power reset on the side of the computer....a fast down...and everything is off.... Thanks for you input.
