Toshiba Satellite C655 blank screen and unresponsive

May 10, 2012 at 15:32:23
Specs: Windows 7
i had left my laptop powered on for the night and woke up to find it had been frozen for about 2 hours straight. after shutting it off manually with the power button and waiting a few minutes to reboot it the screen had gone completely blank with no backlight whatsoever and no startup noises and the fan was blowing erratically. i turned it off and left it for the day with the battery and cord disconnected.
now, the fan runs for a few brief seconds on startup and the screen is still blank and i only hear a clicking noise when i listen closely.

i'd like to know if there's any way to fix this without having to see a technician or at least know the exact problem causing this. thank you for your time :)

The clicking is probably the hard drive. It could be failing. Try F8 when you try to boot it. Choose VGA mode or last last know good config or even safe mode.
