I have a Toshiba Portégé 3480CT notebook computer. I have formatted the hard disk drive and removed a LILO manager from the HD, also I have sys(ed) the drive from a startup floppy.

The problem is that the computer will not recognise my HD from startup. It just says

"Insert system disk in drive.
Press any key when ready.."

Even though it is a HD, I press a key and it reads the HD for a second and the message pops back up again.

I can access the HD drive from a start-up floppy and install win xp from a cd or from the HD, but when it comes to restarting the installation (when prompted by win xp), the computer just displays the same message again! It's so frustrating, any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for taking time to read all of this!

Reply:

Reinstall or install a bootloader. The current bootloader is missing or empty.

Reply:

Boot from a floppy and type
fdisk /mbr
This will restore the Master Boot Record.
