i have a toshiba satellite model m35x-s309 and it was been acting very strange. while i am holding it on my lap and using it it's just fine but sometimes when i put it down it just turns itself off. doesn't happen all the time but at least once a day. at the toshiba site they listed a similar problem but not exact. they mentioned a "lock up" or restart when just touching it but not a shut off. their solution was to bring it to an authorized dealer for a free check.
any suggestions as to what is going on with my laptop, and do you think i qualify for the free check since its not exactly the same issue. close but not exact.
thanx for helping

My advice is... Sell it on eBay and buy a new one, that is NOT Toshiba. I know you don't want to do that, I felt the same way with mine... (Satellite A75). I took it to repair center, they fixed it. A few months later, it started screwing again. I cleaned out the bottom fans with a vacuum cleaner, worked for a week, next week, screwing again. Toshiba sucks, don't buy from them. :-S

Hello Randola... from what you describe, it sounds like a problem that I had with my IBM laptop and my friend has with his Toshiba laptop. In both of our situations, it was the connector where the power cable connects to. I had to open my laptop and resolder the connector to the board. My friend has to bend the cable a bit, for it to make proper contact and if he moves it, just slightly, it turns off. He got a brand new cable and tried that and it did the same thing, so we figure it's the connector in the laptop as well.
Hope that helps you a bit.
Ray
