I wonder if anyone can offer any help?
I was typing away quite happily in word when the blue screen of death flickered up for 1 second then the laptop turned itself off without shutting down. On turning it on, the 'toshiba' screen loads, where i can access the BIOS, or boot from CD. If dont press a key, a flashing white cursor appears in the top left a second later, and every time i turn it on again (no starting windows 98 script etc). If i use the toshiba boot cd it loads its autoexec.bat and gives a menu of reformating or exiting to DOS. If i exit from its 'format the hard drive and start again' option, i am left at the d:\ command prompt, which i can change to c:\ - the filenames/directories of which look ok.
Has anyone any ideas about what may be causing the problem (the hard drive methinks- is it buggered?) and how to resolve it. I am way out of my depth and could do with a hand, Thanks

Here's the problem: HELP!
I have a 4 y/o Toshiba laptop (360 Satellite???) and somehow, via en email I presume, managed to download a nasty VIRUS!
When I go to turn it on, the Toshiba logo shows in red, then (as before) I am asked for my password.
When I enter it correctly the computer emits about 15 wah-wah sounds (like an alarm; high-low) then it displays something like
Virtual drive C 64 bits
Ramdrive... (and some other stuff)Somehow the computer now had a drive "Q" and does not recognize C or A.
In addition one time I was able to get to a C prompt (no longer) and found the contents as
DESTROY_BAT
and some other obvious nasties desigend to ruin my computer.I tried an "erase *.*" and no go. I tried delete and again, nothing.
When I try to use the "restore" CD it finally gets to
SETTING CMOS" and then goes dormant. Is anyone familiar with this particular virus? I think this happened 4 or more months ago and no my laptop is useless.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Please remember I am a novice in terms of technical know-how!
Many thanks!
