Toshiba Laptop turns on, screen shows nothing

I can turn off and restart my computer just fine, but when I go to turn it back on the computer turns on but the screen doesn't. The white strip above my touch pad won't turn on, neither will the touch controls by the power button. I have to open and close it a few times before it will turn on. I'm really not sure what is wrong with it.
