My laptop: Toshiba satellite A100-:LE6 started working weird when the screen wasn’t displaying properly. I would have to wiggle the screen around a little (slightly opening and closing it) before it would get to working clearly. Then one day it didn’t work at all. It seems to be trying to display the image, and every once in a while you’ll see a few vertical lines of the color, but most of the time the screen is black. I plugged it into and external screen and that works just fine, so the hard drive is ok. I’ve tried replacing the FL inverter board, but it didn’t fix it (compatibility was checked). I’ve also tried replacing the screen itself, with a screen from an old laptop we had, but that didn’t work either. (Do we have to check for compatibility?) Is there any more suggestions? I’m thinking that maybe the inverter board we replaced it with was defective. Or can it be something else?

There is a very thin ribbon cable that runs from you computer up through a hinge and into the screen. If you could wiggle it and cause video to come and go, and then it finally stopped working all together, its pretty obvious its an actually break in the connection. If you're not comfortable working on it, take it to a local shop and ask them to test the connection to the screen for you.
