Hi, I have a Toshiba 2105CDS Laptop that needs an AC Adapter. I am trying to find out the power rating that this laptop requires. I know it is 15volts, but not sure of the AMPS. I think it's 3.65amps. If I use a toshiba supply rated at 15V 4Amps, will that hurt it?

That will be ok if it only needs 3.65 amps. The Laptop will only use what it neeeds. But make sure the polarity of the power supply is the same as the Laptop!

Ok, I have the laptop here. It is 15V 3.0A. The supply I am bidding on: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3495264157&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT ...is 15V 4.0A. The polarity is the same ie. inside="+", outside="-". I am just affraid that the 1.0A extra may hurt the laptop, unless what you are saying is true, that the laptop will only use what it needs.
Thanks

It's not too much AMPERAGE that will hurt, it would be too much VOLTAGE.

If for some reason the supply cannot put out ENOUGH amperage, that could cause problems--example--

Most Thinkpad laptops use the same voltage supply, but some supplies are either for older models, or meant for "light duty" use, and are not as heavy, (high amperage) and may not run some of the newer machines with better graphics, DVD's, etc.

It would be like the outlets in your house--(U.S.) are 115-125 volts AC, fused for, maybe, 15 amps.

You could "plug" anything in there from a few milliamps, or 1 or 2 amps, right on up to 10 or 15 amps.
