Comment:

When I try to connect with my dialup ISP, I get a message: "Opening Port..." Error 633. The modem (or other connecting device) is already in use or not configured properly.

I follow the trouble shooting instructions, but I can't find the problem. It indicates the modem is not disabled and is working properly. On the PORTS tab it only indicates "ECP Printer Port (LPT1)"

My desktop indicates COM1 and COM 2 there as well.

What could be the problem and how can I correct it? Thanks, Jim

You may have more than one instance of the software for your dial up ISP running. Also could be multiple installations of the modem.

Boot into Safe Mode and remove all instances of the modem in Device Manager, and reboot. Let Windows reinstall the modem and try over.

So did Windows indicate it was installing the modem? Go to Device Manager and look at the listing for the modem. Does Device Manager indicate the modem is working properly?

If so, then go to Control Panel> Internet options> Connections> Setup. Follow the on screen prompts.

Yes windows indicated installing modem, the modem showed up in the list after reboot. The dialer is installed correctly. Device manager indicates modem is working properly. when I query the modem, answer in the log is: "Opening the modem device failed with error 000005aa"

Check the phone line connection. Quite common to connect to the wrong port. One is for line in and one for connecting a phone.
