Hi I have a toshiba Satllite 5100 laptop. Sometimes the harddrives just starts going begins to tick for ever it is very annoying and distracting especially when I want to work. I thought it was perhaps my SETI@home software so I uninstalled it,I uninstalled or exited all kiknds of Real audio and other types of utility software etc. But the ticking goes on! I have a Zonealarm firewall and AVG virus protetor, I don't know if they would keep my hardrive going all the time or what but anyway...if anyone has any idea why the drive is constantly ticking perhaps you could share your insights with me. Otherwise by the the way the computer is just great, it is running just fine.

Thanks a lot.

Do a ctrl-alt-delete and check the running programs for anything suspicious.

The following are a couple of lists to see what programs are, if you don't recognize some.
