I have an eleven month old Satellite S1900-203 that a couple of days ago started experiencing problems with running on battery power. The charger keeps the battery charged but when I disconnect the power outlet, the laptop crashes without the battery mode taking over from the power outlet. The power management shows the battery is full at 100%. I've always taken great care in making sure the battery is not overcharged and is discharged regularly before charging. What could the problem be?

Hi tangaeric:
This is just something to try first, if laptop runs on battery all by itself then my guess is that the switching control that is suppose to turn on when AC adapter looses power or is disconnected has problems. If laptop doesn't work with just battery (disconnect AC adapter) then I would say that the battery might be bad & you need a different battery to test PC. When you read the power manager where you using AC adapter, might be that this was showing the power from adapter & not battery.Good luck.

Hi Z,
Thanks for the ideas. The problem is that it won't switch on on battery only. It has to be connected to power. I'll test the battery or the PC with another battery.
Thanks.

I have a T1910, and the battery light flashes orange instead of being solid orange when battery is supposed to be charging.
Battery level on the T1900 series can be set through MaxTime or the Popup window, any time a new battery is detected - even if the battery is empty, you can still set the level to high and it'll read high until you remove the battery and put it back in.
Chances are the battery is dead, mine is, and a new one can be about $50 or more.

My toshiba Sattellite 2430 runs fine on battery for hours. However, sometime when battery is 100% charged, and it is running on AC adapter, it just shuts off. Restrting reveals that battery mysteriously discharged, and even just jumped to 0% from 100%!!! Of course battery is perfectly fine, as it runs on battery for hours. There is certainly a (Y2k like) bug in Laptop which makes it 0% when it is being charged at 100%
