toshiba backup software no backup sets

Specs: Windows 7 Pro, I7/8GB
I have a Toshiba external HDD PH3100U-1EXB and when I try to restore it says there are no backup sets available. When I attempt to repair the catalog, it says there are no backup sets to repair. I can see in the folder that there are 78GB of rim images files. Toshiba is of no help. Does anyone know how to get the catalog repaired so it recognizes the existing rim files.

I'm a little lost.. why are you trying to restore an external hard drive? Or repair the catalog?

That usually isn't something that needs to happen on just an ordinary external drive..

I am trying to restore from a backup that is on the external drive. The catalog is something that Toshiba's backup software uses to know how to restore the data. I did finally get to a knowledgeable tech sat Toshiba. To restore the catalog when the restore tells you there are "no backup sets", - choose backup option - at the bottom of the window, choose "can't see my backup sets", it will bring up a list of the drives. Select and highlight the external drive (do not double click to open it) then choose OK. It will search the external drive for backup files (takes awhile). The select your backup from the list and select OK and it will rebuild the catalog. I still have an issue as it didn't like one of the .rim files and there is no option to skip it.

Ohhh, your trying to get the restore off the external, now this makes sense.

Well, I do hate to say it, but.. if it's not reading the image file off the external and there is no built in restore options, you need a new operating system. Did you check on the boot of the computer to see if there is a partition used just for restoring the computer?

If your all out of options here, check out, they have OEM versions of operating systems you can get for $120.

I hope I helped.
