Subject: Ti4600 Card not working up to parOS: Windows XP Home SP2CPU/Ram: P4 1.6 Willamette Socket |
Comment: Help me!! I've had this video card, GeForce 4 Ti4600 for six months or so now. I bought it used off of eBay. When i recieved and installed the item it worked fine, but i noticed that it did not perform like Ti4600 fps wise. For example it gets a 3dmark2001 score of 7500 (and dropping) whereas a normal Ti4600 (with similar processor) gets 9800. As a whole i am recieving way lower frame rates than those posted on tomshardware.com or other benchmark sites. My card is not underclocked, my system is fine virus/spyware wise, everything updated. I dont know whats wrong, please help. Thanks for reading, all comments welcome.

Reply: (edit)Hey i had the same card and same problems my resolution was the bloated nvidia drivers. You like many may be trying to do the good thing and keep your card up to date. In this case it was my problem. Try going back to the 56.64 or 53.04 version of the drivers, the 56 worked for me as i was on win2k but you may have different versions on xp or 98 or whatever. I would then try 3dmark again and see how that goes, and if you have the time maybe work up version by version seeing where the issue comes up. Also i found a defrag did wonders for frame rate but that may have just been my comp. Good Luck

Reply: (edit) I tried using various drivers. Here are my results with 3DMark2001, default settings: 66.93: 7005 56.72(ASUS original) : 7165 53.04: did not install properly 30.82: 7385 Here i noticed that the older the driver got, the slightly higher my score was, though with the older drivers i noticed a marked degrade in fps with the shader-intensive game test 4 Nature.. Still, this is nothing compared to what a Ti4600 should be getting. I fear i may have a defective card. Though when i first installed it, i remember getting a score of 9100 with the original ASUS driver 56.72. After that the score went down as time did, but very gradually. I keep my system in shape with periodic virus scans, spyware scans, registry fixes, hard drive error scans, and defrags. Maybe a good reformat is in order? I dont think so as my system runs the OS fast for a P4 1.6. Thanks for the help though, yonder711.
