Ok, so I installed this new LG DVD/CD-R/W combo drive as the master on my secondary IDE channel, and now the hard disk drive activity light stays lit up constantly even though there is no activity happening...I've systematicaly plugged and unplugged all my IDE devices and the problem is definatley with the new combo drive... i.e. combo drive plugged in=activity led lit up, combo drive unplugged=normal operation.

Anyone have any ideas what may be causing this or how I might go about fixing it. The combo drive DOES work properly as well even though the hard drive led stays lit...I'm stumped.

SODA thing works fine, looks fine and runs fine.

Your Hard Drive LED stays on constantly, but how can you tell as it is inside the case?

Do you mean that the HDD LED on the front of your system case is on?

If this is the case use Windows Task Manger and check out what applications and processes are running. Look for something out of the ordinary: if you can't manage that make sure you run a FULL SYSTEM VIRUS SCAN.

System is aok, everything is fine/healthy. Nothing is abnormaly using system resources...Lemme rephrase the question, since this is very obviously a hardware issue...Does anyone think that this is an issue with the combo drive or with my motherboard/bios? If I can pinpoint it to the combo drive, I'll just have the darned thing replaced as allowable by warranty.

The HDD LED staying on is often associated with an IDE cable being plugged in backwards. If this is not the problem, I would consider having the combo drive replaced under warranty.

It could be that the cd drive is active

I've had something like this happen to me with a AMD 100 MHz 486DX4 system and a 36x CD-ROM drive. It stayed on until I loaded the IDE-CD.SYS and MSCDEX.exe. Then it went off and woul flash in sync with the CD-ROM access. It would not flash with the HDD.
